Having loose teeth is not something that should be taken lightly. Once all the baby teeth are lost, there is no hope for the permanent teeth to be replaced. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can cause teeth to loosen. The most common causes are teeth grinding, trauma to the mouth and gum disease. All of these conditions have immediate treatment if one still wants to keep his teeth.
The tooth sometimes becomes loose due to bite problem or through bruxism, a medical term for teeth grinding. If the teeth are not in the proper position during chewing, serious oral problems can appear. Improper bites can place some abnormal pressure on the surrounding teeth which causes pain, inflammation, and a less than attractive appearance. The dentist may advise to use a mouth guard when sleeping so as to avoid teeth grinding.
Trauma to the mouth is another reason why adults have loose teeth. It may be a punch in the face or it can be falling on the stairs. If the blow in the mouth is strong enough, some of the teeth may also become loose. Loose teeth normally will become tight again in just after a few weeks. However, one must be careful when chewing any food so that it will not aggravate the situation. If the trauma is too severe, the dentist will be placing a tooth splint in order to fix loose teeth in place and so that the gums will tighten around them.
Gum disease is a common oral disease that has been affecting the gums of most adults, and is perhaps one of the most common reasons of loose teeth. This is caused by the build-up of plaque on the teeth and gums resulting to swollen and tender gums. The good news is that this disease can be prevented with good oral hygiene. If a person is suffering from the early signs of gum disease, one must need to go to the dentist to remove the plaque build-up and help the gums heal.
The treatment for loose teeth involves getting to the root of the problem. One can also give the loose tooth a rest and avoiding chewing in that area as possible. This is done so that the gums will not be aggravated and will start to heal. Also, it is best to visit the dentist often for a thorough evaluation as to why the problem is occurring and get some tips on how to fix loose teeth.
